Review from Jo-Ann
Remember being at school and hanging out with a group of mates? Remember crushing on one of the group but never revealing your feelings for fear of rejection? Well, that was Kate and her ‘best friend’ Sam. They were part of a tight group and hung out all the time, the problem was that Sam had a girlfriend.
A tragedy occurred in their teens, and Sam leaves town soon after to travel for three months. That was 8 years ago. Katy, or Kate as she is now known has a very average job but is engaged to a successful lawyer, Richard, who is attentive, sweet, and a lot of fun under the covers! Kate is due to be married in just under three weeks, everything is under control, and her life is about to begin if only her mother would give her 5 minutes peace!
That is until Sam suddenly re-appears in town, what does he want? Why did he go for so long? Why wasn’t he in contact? And why does he make her feel just as good as he did eight years ago?
What Did I think Of Breaking All The Rules?
If you loved the Nighthawk series, you’ll love Rachel Richey’s trademark writing style which shines through in Breaking All The Rules. The prose is natural, warm and smart making this stand-alone romantic comedy a quirky, quintessentially English and enjoyable read. There won’t be a character you can’t relate too. Kate, who is headstrong and even petulant at times towards her over fussy mother. Good old Dad who’s there just when you need him, Grandma dropping pearls of wisdom and Jen, the best friend we all have who’s a moral compass over a bottle of wine when your life becomes a tangled mess.
If you enjoy Helen Fielding and Sophie Kinsella, you’d really enjoy this country tale of serendipity, love, and family.
