This review is from: Rhythm of Deceit (The NightHawk Series Book 2) (Kindle Edition)
I adored book one, Storm Rising, and I must say this second book has made me an avid fan. I am a big believer in having some grit in a romance story. I love Barbara Freethy books, with the mystery and suspense and I have to say Richey delivers on this level.. may I say that I actually enjoyed her books more.
The story took me a long for the ride, lots of highs and lows, Richey's writing flowing with the tension that hooks the reader from the outset. She pulls away from the cliché romance and happily ever after, offering intrigue and twists and turns, especially towards the end of the book, the pace picks up and the surprises and twists to the tale had me up reading until 3am as I couldn't put the book down.
I again loved the way the past and the present merged, revealing secrets and allowing the reader to understand some of the more complex characters and give and understanding of their actions and how things came to be. Very cleverly written.
The characters come alive on the page and I have to say I loath Simon .. but then that's the work of a good author being able to bring the not so likeable characters to life too that they actually get under your skin, but you can't help but continue reading anyway.
I cannot wait for the next instalment in the series.
