Review by Sharon Adetoro
Storm Rising is the debut novel of Rachael Richey.
This book is the first of the 4 part NightHawk series and I’m already looking froward to the next installment.
I have to be honest, this was not on my list of books to read. What?? I hear you say. Your Supposed to be doing a review! I know I know, and I am but you have to realise that although my major love is Paranormal Romance, and then Romance novels (in that order.) The new sensation of Rock Star Romance is just not my thing.
Now this is where it gets interesting. I read this book in one evening. Which surprised the hell out of me. I didn’t want to put it down. Why? Well lets see….
Firstly it’s Set in England, and written by an English author – what’s not to love!
Secondly it goes against the grain of the usual Rock Star romance books out there: young girl meets Rock star and he somehow falls in love with the girl next door at his height of fame when he can have any woman he wants. I like my stories a little more true to life and this didn’t disappoint.
Thirdly. Yes there is a third point. It didn’t follow the usual set formula in romances, which can be very predictable especially if you devour book like I do.
I loved the way the story flowed and the way it was written. Telling not only the childhood love story of our hero Gideon Hawk, and heroine Abigail Thomson through memories and letters, but also the love story of the main characters as they meet again years later.
This had me hooked.
Richey very cleverly weaves a beautifully crafted piece of work which had me laughing, cringing and crying in all the right places.
It could have done with a little more heat in the bedroom. intimacy in my opinion is a way to show how the characters connect on a more visceral level, however this didn’t distract too much from my enjoyment of the book. The interplay between the characters is real and authentic which makes up for it.
A really good read and a nicely written and thoughtout book by a first time author!
