Review from Dandelions Inspired
Imagine spending the last ten years thinking that the love of your life had decided he no longer wanted you and moved on? No answers, no explanation, just done. Rachael Richey’s first novel in the NightHawk series, Storm Rising, shares the story of two young people who fell in love, but then everything fell apart. Abi has recently returned home for the first time in many years for her mother’s funeral – the mother that treated her so terrible. Gideon is the front man in a famous rock band, but suddenly announced that it’s over and he is finished with the band. As Abi reluctantly helps her Dad sort through her mother’s belongings, Gideon sets out to get answers about why Abi dropped out of his life so suddenly.
I enjoyed reading this novel for review, and found Richey’s writing to flow very well even with all of the flashbacks. Recently I’ve read some novels with constant back and forth between present and past and sometimes it’s just too much, but not this novel. I could certain relate to Storm Rising, not because of the plot and subject matter, but unfortunately because of the unkind, uncaring mother (I had one too!). This novel embraces young love, and demonstrates the unwillingness to give up on love, no matter how much time has passed. Actually this novel reminds me of one of my all-time favorite movies, but I can’t say which one because if you have seen it, then I will have spoiled the plot! Rachael Richey demonstrates a flair for romance and is definitely worth checking out, if you haven’t already. Hopefully in the near future I will have the opportunity to read the next novel in this series to find out more about Abi and Gideon!
